Mikko Eskelinen and co-driver Arto Kapanen suffered technical problems and was forced to retire Arctic Lapland Rally
Flying Finn Mikko Eskelinen and his long-term co-driver Arto Kapanen made a disappointing debut run with KPH-Team owned Ford Fiesta R5 in traditional season opener Arctic Lapland Rally which was driven in the region of Arctic Circle, Lapland, Finland.
Eskelinen were in excellent pace before running into technical problems on third special stage and was forced to retire the event in its’ first section.
Highly experienced GTM Motorsport drivers entered the traditional 50th Arctic Lapland Rally and its' 12 stages as well as for its’ 290,09 special stage kilometers with high hopes but due blinking low oil pressure lamp they stopped at the middle of third stage.
In later inspections it was discovered that the problem was caused by a faulty sensor and therefore the car was in perfect rally condition.
- We had a good start and we knew that the legendary Siikakämä stage would have been perfect for us and our R5 car. Unfortunately in the middle of the most intense competition the computer system surprisingly told us that there were no oil pressures and told us to stop driving. So we did and tried to seek the problem. We also added little oil to engine to avoid engine failure and after restarting the engine everything were in order. But during inspections and adding oil we had lost over 10 minutes. Therefore it was game over for hopes of success and we decided to retire the event, Eskelinen shared his moments.
The highly appreciated international rally was won by multiple Finnish Rally Champion Juha Salo. Second fastest was Jussi Vainionpää, who lost almost three minutes to winner. Third fastest was ex-formula 1 driver Heikki Kovalainen, who competed with Ford Fiesta R5.

21.3.2015 - Mikko Eskelinen enters Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo 2015 with brand new Lamborghini Huracan - Flying Finn seeks Championship title in Leipert Motorsport with a new team mate Kelvin Snoeks
In season 2014 Finn Mikko Eskelinen accomplished 7/14 PRO-AM podiums in Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo and after colourful events he finished the season in 4th position in overall standings. Now in season 2015 highly experienced driver changes the team and shares a seat behind the steering wheel of brand new Lamborghini Huracan with new team mate, dutch Kelvin Snoeks.
For season 2015 the expectations are set high as Eskelinen and Snoeks spends six long competition weekends and 14 rounds as driver of Leipert Motorsport, a team which has got used to success. Snoeks is a highly experienced driver who has developed his skills from karting to Formula and GT-cars. He's also a familiar sight on podiums. For Eskelinen a top deal with a top team, top car and top team mate guarantees excellent positions to drive for success in his second-in-a-row Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo season.
- In previous seasons I've done co-operation with Leipert Motorsport and now as they have a new Lamborghini Huracan and fast PRO-driver the decision for me to accept this deal wasn't hard to made. Furthermore as my sponsors and partners gave a green light for the project it seems that I now have best-ever basis for the forthcoming series, Eskelinen tells.
- I've been testing the car in Italy and introduce myself for the team and Snoeks. As during the test session my speed was top in Amateur drivers I now have a calm mind for the first events. Furthermore as all European circuits are now familiar to me I'm really eager to get into racing, Eskelinen continues.
Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Europe series are to be driven with brand new Lamborghini Huracan as well as with old Lamborghini Gallardo. There are three separate series in the series as competitors measures their speed in Europe, in Asia and in USA. This year World Final is to be driven in USA at Sebring circuit. There are high-quality Internet-TV-coverage to be broadcasted in every round.
12.4.2015 - Mikko Eskelinen and Kelvin Snoeks two times 3rd in Monza opening rounds of Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo - Another Finn Patrik Kujala into historical double victory
First two rounds of international Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series were succesful for Flying Finns Mikko Eskelinen and Patrik Kujala drove podium positions in both Italian events with their brand new Lamborghini Huracán. In two 50 minutes and 23 laps race young Patrik Kujala took two superb overall victories and Eskelinen with his Dutch team mate Kelvin Snoeks collect two third PRO-AM positions.
In qualifying Kujala drove two pole positions. Leipert Motorsport drivers Eskelinen and Snoeks were able to push into 12th and 19th starting grids. A year ago Eskelinen suffered three punctures and was forced to suffer a miserable disappointments in first two rounds. Now in first round of the season Snoeks got underway with a decent start as he was able to pass two fellow competitors in the start acceleration. However due a heavy crash his fellow competitor suffered in first lap the race was continued behind safety car for the next 15 minutes. When the race was continued Snoeks was able to bring the car to Eskelinen in second position on PRO-AM group.
Highly experienced, but still a amateur driver, Eskelinen had a thrilling battle to defend the second PRO-AM group position. However at the final laps he was forced to surrender for two positions.
However a bit later his fellow rival suffered braking problems and crashed out from the race. Therefore Eskelinen and Snoeks collect their season first podium position.
- In qualifying we suffered traffic and therefore 12th starting position was a bit disappointed for us. Fortunately when the event got underway my team mate Kelvin Snoeks
snowed his skills behind the steering wheel and raised us back to podium hunt. My job was to defend his silver position and even I couldn't match my speed for two faster PRO-AM group drivers I'm pretty happy for my performance, shared Eskelinen his thoughts and continued, - In first race ms. Fortuna was also with us as one faster driver suffered problems and therefore we were able to collect podium position which was what we seeked.
For second race Eskelinen and Snoeks got racing in 19th position. After 27 laps and 50 minutes later they finished the event in 10th position in overall classifications. In PRO-AM group they collect 4th highest Championship points, just 1,3 seconds slower than third fastest. However later in official results they rised again into PRO-AM group podium as the event Jury decided that one of their fellow competitors belong to PRO-group instead PRO-AM.
- I was able to have a pretty good start as in starting acceleration I was able to pass three positions. However in fifth lap I missed one braking point and went straight thru a chicane and lost those three positions and 1,3 seconds which eventually excluded us from the podium. After pit stop and driver change Kelvin Snoeks made again superb job and was able to pass us from PRO-AM group 7th position to 4th position. However this time laps ran out and we were forced to satisfy for not having a champagne, commented Eskelinen about their race and dissapointment.
Two hours after the race Leipert Motorsport drivers got news that PRO-AM group winners were actually drivers of PRO-group. Therefore Eskelinen and Snoeks rised to 3rd position which was again a result they had set themselves before the weekend.
- A year ago I suffered three punctures and therefore got a difficult start for the season. Now it's vice versa as two podium positions gave a superb start for this season. Now before next round, which is to be driven in Silverstone, we have lots of homework to do. I strongly believe that in next events we're even more competitive, Eskelinen shared his visions.
First two Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo events were won by another Flying Finn Patrik Kujala, who was the first Finn ever to win the series event. Leipert Motorsport second team drivers tackled with engine problems and were forced to retire both events. Next two rounds are to be driven in British Silverstone at the fourth weekend of May.

24.5.2015 - Finns rule Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Series - Patrik Kujala into 4th victory and Mikko Eskelinen with Dutch Kelvin Snoeks 2nd fastest in PRO-AM group
In international Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Racing Series Finns Patrik Kujala and Mikko Eskelinen accomplished excellent success in 2nd racing weekend of the highly appreciated Lamborghini Super Trofeo European series which were driven in British Silverstone. Kujala was, once again, two times fastest driver and Eskelinen with his team mate Kelvin Snoeks collect 4th and 2nd highest PRO-AM group points. In overall stadings Kujala is leading PRO-group by 17 points and Eskelinen is in second position in PRO-AM group as there are still eight events to be driven.
Six weeks ago Patrik Kujala came from nowhere and dominated the Italian events. Now in Silverstone he was again the fastest driver in the circuit. Kujala ruled the race from free practice to qualifyings and both races. Leipert Motorsport drivers Eskelinen and Kelvin Snoeks started the events from 11th and 18th positions and after 50 minutes and 24 laps they were able to collect 4th and 2nd highest PRO-AM championship points. Kujala continued his record-breaking results as he have won all four rounds so far. Eskelinen was also very happy for the good results as he's also driving the best-ever season start of his long international career.
- Before the event we knew that in qualifyings we had to be faster than previously in Monza. However, once again, there were traffic in front of us and therefore positions 11th and 18th were pretty disappointing. Furthermore as in Saturday we lost PRO-AM podium just by a bit we couldn't believe that in Sunday we stood on silver podium position. I drove trouble-free runs and my team mate Kelvin Snoeks gave an excellent demonstration of his skills. Excellent result and superb feelings, shared Eskelinen his joyment.
- In overall standings we're now in divided top position. These good results gives us lots of boost for next rounds which are to be driven in the middle of June at French Paul Ricard circuit. Furthermore as my fellow Finn Patrik Kujala was able to collect two more overall victories the feelings for next four weeks are very enjoyable. A big thanks for our success belongs definitely to my Dutch team mate Kelvin Snoeks and whole German Leipert Motorsport team personnel who all have made perfect job, Eskelinen continues.
In Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series the drivers measure their skills with identical Lamborghini Huracan cars. Because the car are technically identical the driver skills and car setup are what makes the difference. Level of competitiveness is very high as again, for example, in PRO-AM group top five drivers finished the second 50mins and approximately 150kms race inside 10 seconds.

21.6.2015 - Mikko Eskelinen and Kelvin Snoeks stepped into leadership in Lamborghini Super Trofeo PRO-AM series - Jesse Anttila and Patrik Kujala had a big drama
Fifth and sixth round of Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo was driven in the circuit of Paul Ricard, South France. For Finns the events included lots of drama and moments of big joy as Leipert Motorsport PRO-AM group drivers Mikko Eskelinen and Dutch Kelvin Snoeks accomplished two silver positions which were enough to make them series leaders.
In PRO-group Patrik Kujala, who is a winner of four previous rounds, suffered a puncture and finished his season first-non-victory position. However another victory in Paul Ricard weekend keeps him also firmly in Championship standings.
Third Finn, Leipert Motorsport debytant Jesse Kujala and his spanish team mate Isaac Tutumlu were eight in his Satudays race and in second race their competition came dramatically to and end just just 50m before finish line because a fellow competitor caused a collision by crashing into their.
Eskelinen and Snoeks entered the races from 12th and 16th grids. In Saturdays’ event team made a superb job and were able to avoid all trouble and therefore they came to chequered flag as 2nd fastest in PRO-AM group. In Sundays' second 50 minutes and 21 laps race Eskelinen and Snoeks were also second, just 1,533 seconds slower than winners. Due excellent performance they are now in 9 points Championship lead as there are still six rounds to go.
Eskelinen is currently living his best-ever motorsport season. Furthermore as second Flying Finn Patrik Kujala is in strong PRO-group lead, it can be said that Finns dominate Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series.
- Once again in qualifyings we were slowed down by our fellow competitors and therefore we weren't able to show our performance. 12th and 16th grids weren't the ones we had hoped for. However in the events Kelvin was, once again, in his own level and because his superb attack and my smooth driving we collected second highest points in both events, Eskelinen tells.
- Both trouble-free races were an excellent proof of our competitiveness and 9 points Championship lead is a perfect place to head towards next rounds. I'm very happy for my basic speed and Kelvin made again absolutely fantastic work, Eskelinen continues.

25.7.2015 - Mikko Eskelinen and Kelvin Snoeks suffered disappointing retirement after superb bronze position in Lamborghini Super Trofeo SPA-Francorchamps
Flying Finn Mikko Eskelinen and Dutch team mate Kelvin Snoeks were unable to fulfill their goals in 4th racing weekend of Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo European series which were driven in circuit of SPA-Francorchamps, Belgium. In 1st race they celebrated bronze podium position and 2nd round they suffered a disappointing retirement due impact with fellow competitor.
Eskelinen and Snoeks, who compete with German Leipert Motorsport Lamborghini Huracan entered the events from 9th and 22th grids. After steady run they secured third highest PRO-AM group points from the Fridays' event. However in 2nd race, which were driven in heavy rain at Saturday, Snoeks made a small mistake in passing a fellow competitor and was forced to retire the event due damage the car encountered.
Because of worst rivals got more points from the weekend Eskelinen and Snoeks are now in just one point lead in overall standings as there are still four rounds and World Finals to go.
- In first race Kelvin had an excellent start and was in attack mode before safety car was called to circuit due heavy crash. After drivers change I had nearly an impossible mission to maintain our Podium position, but fortunately this I made it thru, Eskelinen tells.
- In second race the conditions for racing were horrible. Huge storm and heavy rain gave lots of challenge for all competitors. I managed to survive my driving turn but Kelvin made a small driving mistake when passing a fellow driver in a tight corner so that the impact was so heavy that the damages to our car were so severe to cause a retirement and zero points for us, Eskelinen continues.
Leipert Motorsport drivers have been in excellent pace in previous six rounds. Now due miserable weekend their nine points leadership was reduced to one point and therefore for the next round.
In SPA-Francorchamps another Flying Finn Patrik Kujala was again in ultimate racing mode as he was the fastest driver in both races. However as he made a mistake in first race by passing Safety Car he was dropped in 6th position in overall classifications. Even so, he still leads PRO-series with big gap for silver positionist. Third Flying Finn Jesse Anttila and his Spanish team mate Isaac Tutumlu collect 7th and 5th overall positions from the Belgium rollercoasteric racing weekend.

1.8.2015 - Brake problems forced Mikko Eskelinen to retire Nelivetomies rally
In season 2015 Flying Finn Mikko Eskelinen has successfully been competing in Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series as he's leading the series together with his dutch team mate Kelvin Snoeks.
Just a week after Lamborghini SPA-Francorchamps event Eskelinen entered behind the steering wheel of his Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX rally car and entered Nelivetomies rally which was driven inside WRC Rally Finland.
However Mikko and his long-term co-driver Arto Kapanen were forced to retire the event due brake problems.
Eskelinen ran into brake problems at the end of the first stage and tackled the first day and its' five special stages with reduced braking power. After a service and night pause Mikko and Arto tried to attack on second day and its' four special stages but a broken brake pipe ended their run after legendary special stage of Mökkiperä.
In a moment of retirement Eskelinen and Kapanen were at 4th position in overall classifications.
- In first stage of the rally we lost brakes from rear side wheel. Because the service was four special stages later we just had to survive to the finish with a problematic car. When we made to the service our service crew made superb job and we hoped to continue towards podium without any technical issues. However in first stage of the second day a brake pipe broke up and we were forced to retire the rally, Eskelinen tells.
- It would have been superb to drive even a one complete special stage without any problems and then to see my speed against other top drivers - and especially rally winner and Finnish Rally Championship leader Teemu Asunmaa.
Now I just have to swell this dissapointment and to continue focusing to next two rounds of Lamborghini Super Trofeo series which is to be driven at the end of September, international racing Champion continues.
Nelivetomies rally was won by another Flying Finn Teemu Asunmaa who had a good run against Mika Rampanen. After 9 special stages the gap between Asunmaa and Rampanen was just 14,8 seconds. Third fastest was Juha Koljonen, who was nearly four minutes slower than Asunmaa and his co-driver Jonne Halttunen.
Final results Nelivetomies rally 2015: Top-5:
1. Teemu Asunmaa & Jonne Halttunen, Subaru Impreza WRX STi R4, 1:04:56.5
2. Mika Rampanen & Kari Kallio, Subaru Impreza WRX STi, +14,8sec
3. Juha Koljonen & Mikko Tuhkanen, Subaru Impreza WRX STi, +3:43.5sec

6.9.2015 - Mikko Eskelinen collect one of the sweetest trophies of his career - Flying Finn into victory in Barcelona 24 hours endurance race
In season 2015 Mikko Eskelinen is competing, and leading the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo PRO-AM series. Now in Barcelona 24 hours endurance race he got an tasty extra reward as he together with Leipert Motorsport team mates Iisac Tutumlu, Vadin Gitlin, Ulrik Pedersen and Marcel Leipert drove a superb run and collect honorable SPX-group victory with Lamborghini Huracan.
In pre-event practice session team suffered a complete engine failure and due change of engine they were forced to start the event from back row at 74th grid. For the whole 24 hours Leipert Motorsport drivers drove the circuit with 148.9 km/h of average speed and despite having troubles in power steering and other mechanical failure they entered chequered flag as sixth fastest in overall classifications.
Without technical worries Leipert Motorsport would have battled for the victory of overall classifications. However SPX-group victory
is an excellent result after troubling weekend. Eskelinen alltogether whole team and drivers were very happy and joyful at the finish.
- In season 2012 I celebrated Spanish GT championship title here in Montmelo circuit of Barcelona and now nearly three years later I accomplished another tasty trophy by winning one of the sweetest event I've ever driven. SPX-group victory from Barcelona 24 hours is a victory I won't forget because there aren't not so many other Finnish racing drivers who have accomplished the same result, Eskelinen tells.
- Fortunately the engine failure happened in the practice and not in the event. Therefore after engine change we entered the event and climbed from back 74th to sixth position.
Yes it was absolutely thrilling to drive in the race where I passed lots and lots of less powered cars. We won the SPX-group victory by 3 laps gap before our fellow competitors and a special thanks for this victory goes to Leipert Motorsport team mechanics who kept our car running after it had suffered some technical problems, Eskelinen continued.
Especially for Eskelinen the Barcelona 24 hours Enduracen event was very good place to maintain his driving skills as Lamborghini Super Trofeo series continues in next two weeks at German Nurburgring. Flying Finn aims for PRO-AM Championship title and therefore this SPX-group victory was a tasty extra reward for his six other season podiums.
Final results 24h Barcelona, SPX-group, Top-3:
1. Iisac Tutumlu Lopez, Mikko Eskelinen, Vadin Gitlin, Ulrik Pedersen, Marcel Leiper, Leipert Motorsport Lamborghini Huracan, 473 laps
2. Jürgen Krebs, Oliver Ditzler, Fredy Barth, Rinat Salikhov, Lamborghini Huracan Supertrofeo, +3laps
3. Christoph Lenz, Roberto Pampanini, Milos Pavlovic, Nicolas Stürzinger, Lamborghini Huracan Supertrofeo, +4laps
19.9.2015 - Mikko Eskelinen and Kelvin Snoeks again on podium at Lamborghini Super Trofeo Nurburgring - Patrik Kujala into victories and secured Championship title
In international Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series Flying Finns Mikko Eskelinen, Patrik Kujala and Jesse Anttila continued their campaigns with outstanding results. Leipert Motorsport driver Mikko Eskelinen together with his Dutch team mate Kelvin Snoeks were able to push to podium and finished the second race in PRO-AM 3rd position after finishing first race in 5th position in PRO-AM.
Another Leipert Motorsport driver Jesse Kujala and his Spanish team mate Iisac Tutumlu were 5th fastest in overall classifications of 1st race and retired the second due brake problems. Patrik Kujala won both events and secured his first-ever Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo title.
For first race Eskelinen and Snoeks started in disappointing 26th grid but in 50 minutes of intense racing they managed to speed up to 15th position in overall and 5th position in PRO-AM classifications. In Sundays second race they started from 10th grid and finished in 9th position in overall and 3rd fastest in PRO-AM. Eskelinen was disappointed for the 5th position but smiled after second race 3rd position and Championship leader.
- We suffered lots of traffic in qualifying laps and therefore our starting grids weren't what we had expected. Also in the race the situation was exactly the same; slower fellow competitors reduced our speed so that we couldn't manage better result than 5th in PRO-AM. However 5th highest Championship points were very much better than zero points, Eskelinen tells.
- After big disappointment we managed to collect our thoughts for the second race and because my team mate Kelvin Snoeks was, once again, in flames we finished the event on podium position. If only there would have been one or two laps more to be driven, Kelvin would have driven a victory for us. Still Championship lead is a good starting position for the final rounds which are to be driven in Florida USA in the middle of November, Eskelinen continues.
Another Flying Finn Patrik Kujala won both races and secured his first-ever Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo title as there are still two rounds to go.
Final results Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo, Nurburgring, 9th round, PRO-AM-group, Top-3:

23.11.2015 - Mikko Eskelinen had a thrilling season 2015 - Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo European Championship silver and World Championship bronze PRO-AM medals to his trophy stand
In season 2015 The Flying Finn Mikko Eskelinen had one of his best-ever international racing seasons as he together with his Dutch team mate Kelvin Snoeks won silver medal in Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo European Championship PRO-AM series in bronze medal in Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo PRO-AM World Finals.
Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo was driven in best European circuits and finals were driven in Sebring, USA. In 14 events Leipert Motorsport drivers Eskelinen and Snoeks celebrated podium position in 9 rounds of the season. However due one retirement and due Lamborghini political decision Finn and Dutch were denied from the European Championship title.
A year ago Eskelinen was 4th in Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo PRO-AM European Championship series and 3rd in in Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo PRO-AM World Finals. Even he was able to improve two positions, he still was very disappointed for season 2015 final rounds which were driven in Sebring, USA.
Eskelinen and Snoeks entered Sebring rounds as PRO-AM Championship leaders. However PRO-driver Loris Spinelli introduced another PRO-driver Riccardo Agostini to his car and due their ultimate speed Leipert Motorsport drivers weren't able to match their speed against Italian fellows. Spinelli and Agostini finished the European Championship final events to 3rd and 2nd positions in overall classifications as in all other previous rounds Spinelli was slower than Eskelinen and Snoeks.
- It was obvious that Lamborghini wanted to have a Italian winner for Italian series and due this political act me and Kelvin were ruled out from the Championship title. Simply two PRO-drivers cannot drive in PRO-AM group and period but Lamborghini decided otherwise, Eskelinen shared his thoughts.
- Me and Kelvin managed to drive good races in Sebring but still Spinelli and Agostini
were a lot faster than us, for the first time in the season.
Eventually two podium positions from four possible wasn't the one we seeked from Sebring and therefore season 2015 was a very good for us if we rule out Sebring final European Championship rounds and World Finals. Before the season got underway we had calculated that to reach for the season goals we need to collect 20 points from 30 possible points from every weekend. We nearly got it right but due SPA crash and Sebring political issues we miserably missed the target, Eskelinen shares his thoughts.
However silver and bronze medals from this intense series is not a bad result at all as Eskelinen and Snoeks managed to collect six PRO-AM bronze and three PRO-AM silver podium positions. Also group victory in Barcelona 24hours GT-event was a tasty result for Finnish Flash.
Winner for Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo PRO series was another Flying Finn Patrick Kujala. He also was fastest in World Finals and therefore he is the ultimate driver of the season 2016. Eskelinen has started planning for next season, but still decisions aren't made.
- Currently I don't know what's going to happen in season 2016. I need to talk to my sponsors and partners that shall we target for the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo PRO-AM Championship title or drive some other series with other intrests, Eskelinen concluded.
